What is online radio?
Online radio is a type of radio broadcasting organized using the capabilities of transmitting and playing audio content over the global internet. Two main formats are used for this purpose. The first is live broadcasting, when presenters interact with listeners. The second is streaming sequential playback of audio files and content, a so-called playlist. Other features are often offered to listeners, such as chat.
The signal source is a computer, through which online broadcasting is conducted using specialized software. The computer transmits data to the provider's server, a dedicated internet platform that then delivers the information to listeners. Listeners' computers or other devices can be located in one part of the world, while the radio station's computer can be thousands of kilometers away, as long as they are connected by a global network.
